The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®) is an internationally recognised process improvement model that is used by many organisations worldwide to manage and maintain the key development processes - those activities most crucial to satisfying their customers.
CMMI® is essentially a collection of best practices that address the development and maintenance of products and services across the entire product lifecycle. CMMI® integrates knowledge from software engineering, systems engineering and acquisition disciplines which previously has been, and in some other models is still addressed separately. By integrating knowledge from these areas, CMMI® provides an approach that can be applied to development and maintenance of all types of products and services, from major engineering undertakings to simple software packages, or services such as training courses or support packages etc. Take a look at our CMMI® Overview for a high-level description of the model.
There are many common misunderstandings surrounding CMMI® . The CMMI® Myths page takes a look at some of these and, we hope, will ease some concerns.
